Allow yourself to un-Grinch

We all, at one time or another, harbored the Grinch in us. All those old beliefs that turned our hearts two sizes too small after contrast in the past. Past contrasts that caused misperceptions resulting in our hearts shrinking. Talk about being misaligned.

But it doesn’t have to be that way as the Grinch learned. We can reform our thinking and liberate ourselves to be who we really are. It’s all about paying attention to our thoughts and the resulting feelings.

Let’s look at an example

Let’s say that I believe “I’m a born worrier and I’m worried about Christmas.” This thought doesn’t feel good. It’s a label that pigeon holes me and doesn’t leave room for  joy.

  • Right now, I’m a born worrier and I’m glad I caught this thought. I’m taking a moment to slow down and breathe.
  • I acknowledge that being a born worrier makes me feel frustrated and I am working on feeling better than that.
  • What’s the opposite of frustrated? Fulfilled? Uplifted? Stimulated?
  • I’ll go for fulfilled, I want to feel fulfilled.
  • I can’t really say that I feel fulfilled right now.
  • But I am on my way to feeling fulfilled.
  • I like how this sounds, “I am starting to actually feel ready to begin my journey toward feeling fulfilled.”
  • I’m actually doing this deliberate uplifting process and it is going to become a habit.
  • I know how to soothe myself toward feeling fulfilled!
  • I am starting to actually feel ready to begin my journey toward feeling fulfilled.
  • I am glad that I am starting to actually feel ready to begin my journey toward feeling fulfilled!
  • This is my new story that I’m going to repeat.
  • I am closer and closer to feeling fulfilled.
  • I started positive momentum toward my feeling fulfilled.
  • This is who I really am, striving to feel fulfilled, capable and creative
  • I am on my way!

If you’ll notice that after the third line, the focus switches from being a worrier to becoming fulfilled.
